Pilates for beginners

You do not need to be flexible or fit, and you do not need to have done this before. You need 55 minutes and a body. Everything else is our job.

We teach private, one-on-one classical Pilates at 717 N Highland Ave, near West Hollywood. There are no group classes, so nobody is a step ahead of you and nobody is behind. It is you and your teacher, and the whole studio.

What happens in your first session

Your teacher asks about your history and anything that hurts, then watches how you stand and breathe. You learn the breath first, because everything in this method is built on it. Then you get on the Reformer, where the springs support you while you learn to move from your center. You will do real work. You will not be thrown into the deep end.

Wear something you can move in and bring water. Socks are enough on the equipment.

How often to come

Two or three times a week is where the method starts to change how you move. Once a week keeps you in touch with it. After the intro most clients settle into two, then feel the difference and stay there.

How long until you notice

Most people feel something in the first session, usually that they stand differently on the way to the car. Within a year clients tell us they cannot imagine their week without it. Those are their words, on our reviews page.

Reformer, mat, and why it matters less than you think

The apparatus is a teaching tool. Beginners learn faster on the Reformer because the springs give feedback the mat cannot. We wrote a longer piece on Reformer versus mat if you are curious, but you do not need to choose. Your teacher does.

How to start

The $65 intro session is a real session, refundable with 24 hours notice. If you would rather talk first, book a free 15-minute call with Yonatan.
